Remote/Commuter Opportunity - Open to candidates within the United States

Summary: Reporting to the Senior Director, the Director, U.S. Patient Advocacy leads the development and execution of patient advocacy strategy for designated therapeutic areas. The role builds integrated advocacy plans aligned with company milestones, drives disease awareness, and partners with patient organizations to co-create resources that empower patients and caregivers. The Director establishes and maintains trusted relationships with advocacy groups and key stakeholders to advance shared goals in disease education, access to care, and clinical trial understanding. This position works cross-functionally with Corporate Affairs, Medical, HEOR, Government Affairs, Commercial, and Market Access teams, and incorporates best practices and measurable ROE standards to ensure advocacy initiatives support corporate objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and execute the U.S. patient advocacy strategy for assigned neuroscience therapeutic area(s).
  • Implement initiatives that drive disease awareness, support key regulatory milestones, and advance an integrated advocacy plan in alignment with Corporate Affairs, Medical, HEOR, Market Access, Commercial, and Government Affairs.
  • Build and maintain trusted, productive relationships with patient advocacy groups and community leaders.
  • Lead communications and data-sharing efforts with advocacy organizations, including developing community letters, infographics, presentations, and other materials.
  • Establish community councils and other forums to gather insights, understand unmet needs, and support corporate objectives.
  • Identify opportunities and create innovative, strategic solutions to address unmet community needs and proactively anticipate access challenges.
  • Plan and manage patient advocacy events and engage employees in championing the patient voice and experience.
  • Represent Lundbeck at scientific conferences, meetings, and forums to strengthen partnerships and patient-centered outcomes.
  • Develop and manage the U.S. Patient Advocacy annual plan and budget in collaboration with cross-functional partners.
  • Apply best practices for measuring the value of patient engagement and develop quantifiable metrics that demonstrate alignment of advocacy initiatives with corporate goals.
  • Ensure ethical, compliant, and transparent engagement and communication with all external stakeholders.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Accredited bachelor’s degree
  • 8+ years of pharma / biotech experience and 5+ years of external engagement / public affairs / patient advocacy experience
  • Experience developing and executing patient advocacy strategy with tangible, measurable results that align corporate goals with community unmet needs
  • Excellent communications skills and strong interpersonal skills that can build and progress relationships internally as well as externally
  • Experience developing and managing annualized patient advocacy plans and budgets
  • Solid understanding of the therapeutic lifecycle from pre-clinical to post-commercialization
  • Knowledge of Legal, Regulatory, & Compliance guidelines for engaging patient advocacy communities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and successfully management multiple projects in a matrixed organization

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Strong Preference to be based in Deerfield, IL Office
  • Experience in rare disease, neuroscience, or related therapeutic areas

Travel:

  • Willingness/Ability to travel up to 30% domestically (including some weekends and regular travel to Lundbeck US Home Office in Deerfield, Illinois. Some international travel may be required.
  • If based remotely, additional travel will be required to Deerfield, IL, to meet the needs of the role and the business

The range displayed is a national range, and if selected for this role, may vary based on various factors such as the candidate’s geographical location, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Salary Pay Range: $225,000 - $265,000 and eligibility for a 25% bonus target based on company and individual performance, and eligibility to participate in the company’s long-term incentive plan.
