As a surgical team member under direct supervision of the circulating RN, provides pre-operative and intra-operative patient care. Demonstrates knowledge of use & care of all surgical instruments both intra-operatively & post-operatively. Demonstrates knowledge of all surgical electrical equipment as it pertains to optimum working order. Prepares for surgical procedures by turning over room and assessing equipment/set-up needs for next scheduled case. Demonstrates proper scrub technique, gowning & gloving of self & other surgical team members. Demonstrates proper draping technique with appropriate back table & mayo stand set up. Knowledge of name & function of instruments & demonstrates proper care of instruments, intra-operatively & post-operatively. Attentiveness to the surgical team & anticipates the next need of the surgeon. Demonstrates proper counting of sponges, instruments & sharps as well as demonstrates continuous awareness of the location of sponges, instruments & sharps on the surgical field. Demonstrates accurate care & handling of specimens. Demonstrates & practices Universal Precautions at all times. Appropriately orders & stocks supplies for the L&D Operating Room & L&D unit.
