Job Description

Help Build a Movement Fueled by the Power of Personal Stories

Are you a detail-oriented, relationship-driven professional who believes that stories can change the world? Do you have the empathy to work closely with people sharing deeply personal experiences — and the organizational skills to keep a growing database running smoothly?

Abortion in America is seeking a Story Bank Manager to help manage our growing network of storytellers and support the Abortion in America Speakers Bureau. This is a vital position at the heart of our mission to harness the truth of lived experience to reclaim power and build public support for reproductive freedom.

About Abortion in America

In the wake of Roe v. Wade’s reversal, Abortion in America is a national initiative amplifying the personal stories of people directly impacted by abortion bans. We believe storytelling is movement work — research shows that personal narratives can change minds and mobilize communities.

Our work is rooted in three core priorities:

  • Documenting and sharing lived experiences of people whose lives and work have been affected by abortion bans
  • Supporting and organizing storytellers to lead, speak out, and connect in powerful ways
  • Using research and social analysis to understand what stories resonate — and why

The Role

As Story Bank Manager , you will oversee Abortion in America’s storyteller database — the foundation of our growing national storytelling network. You’ll manage the systems that help storytellers stay connected, track updates and engagement, and support opportunities for them to share their stories publicly.

You’ll also play a key role in the Speakers Bureau , ensuring storytellers and partner organizations are set up for success before, during, and after events. The ideal candidate brings equal parts empathy, precision, and problem-solving to this critical behind-the-scenes role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, update, and grow Abortion in America’s storyteller database , which houses hundreds of storyteller records (and counting)
  • Maintain data integrity in close collaboration with the Director of Partnerships and Program Operations
  • Work across teams — with the Director of Storytelling and organizing staff — to add updates like communication preferences, new job titles, or recent engagements
  • Connect directly with storytellers to ensure information is current and new storytellers are added smoothly into the system
  • Support data migration efforts , transitioning from Google Sheets to Airtable or another platform as needed
  • Track and report on key metrics related to storyteller engagement and database growth
  • Support the Abortion in America Speakers Bureau , which connects vetted storytellers to trusted organizations and partners for paid speaking opportunities
  • Serve as the main liaison between storytellers and partner organizations to ensure accurate, timely communication ahead of events
  • Manage the Speakers Bureau database of speakers, requests, and event details
  • Maintain and update the Speakers Bureau booklet containing bios, media clips, and headshots for confirmed speakers
  • Assist with pre-event calls and post-event debriefs , helping to identify improvements and celebrate successes
  • Track outcomes and compile stories, photos, and video from events to share with supporters and partner organizations
  • Perform additional duties as needed to strengthen the story bank and speaker engagement programs

Qualifications

  • Highly organized and comfortable managing large, detailed databases
  • Strong attention to detail with exceptional logistical and follow-up skills
  • Experience supporting individuals, events, or programs — able to track deliverables and coordinate across multiple projects
  • Passionate commitment to reproductive freedom and abortion access
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with sensitivity and discretion
  • Computer proficiency in Google Suite and MS Office; experience with Airtable or similar CRM systems a plus
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and travel occasionally
